General Program
Is the General Program right for me?
The KMC Georgia General Program is the ideal starting point for individuals who are interested in bringing peace and tranquility to their lives using ancient and proven techniques that are still relevant for our modern times. Through the lens of these revered technologies, we learn about such topics as higher wisdom, universal compassion, liberation from sorrow, how to solve our human problems and the preciousness of human life. Most importantly, this program provides simple daily practices to help us put this technology into effect immediately!
Are the General Program teachings authentic?
Absolutely. Although a basic introduction to the Buddhist view, General Program teachings are all founded on wisdom and practices of the ancient Mahayana Buddhist tradition, and rooted in the Kadampa lineage of Atisha and Je Tsongkhapa. All the teachings are based on commentaries by Venerable Geshe Kelsang Gyatso, a revered Buddhist master of the Kadampa tradition. Although the General Program is designed to be entirely approachable to the novice, its foundations are deep and extensive. The General Program is taught at every Kadampa Buddhist Center around the world and is an ideal starting point for those interested to find out more about Buddhism and meditation. You can learn more about the Kadampa tradition under About Us in the menu above.
What are the classes like?
We call them "classes," but there are no attendance commitments; the only homework is to apply the techniques we learn about to our everyday lives; and the only tests are personal checkpoints to make sure we really are becoming happier and more peaceful. Most events consist of a commentary from a qualified KMC Georgia teacher, and a simple guided meditation to help deepen our understanding of the commentary.
Classes are located throughout Atlanta and Alabama, and include regularly-scheduled (usually weekly) classes, as well as special day-courses, meditation day-courses and week-end retreats. You can find out about all the GP scheduled events under the Classes and Special Events menu items, above, and on our Event Calendar. You can also refer to the Find a Class menu to the right.
